Recently I met with the Board of Directors of IFM over a weekend to review the present state of the Fellowship, go over past and present business, and discuss vision. That weekend I read Rev. Heiden’s remarks about Lake at his the memorial service. “Dr. Lake came to Spokane. He found us in sin. He found us in sickness. He found us in poverty of spirit. He found us in despair, but he revealed to us such a Christ as we had never dreamed of knowing this side of heaven. We thought victory was over there, but Dr. Lake revealed to us that victory was here, a present and possible reality.”
Another way to say this is …On earth as it is in heaven. King David wrote in Psalm 27:13 “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of God in the land of the living.” Many men and women become discouraged or feel despair for this exact reason, they do not believe they will see the goodness of God (deliverance, healing, freedom from sin, or victory) in any area of their lives while they are living on this side of heaven. John Lake encouraged believers to believe for all the promises of God.
Lakes platform for ministry was 1 John 4:17. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. I believe that Revival is here and most people do not know it. This revival is returning to the Fathers house in intimacy realizing how much he loves us. God is raising up a new breed of believers – the message is intimacy! Intimacy always precedes fruitfulness. It can be easy for any movement to become an institution and become unfruitful. When this happens you tend to go inward. Lake’s vision for IFM was a movement that went outward. It was not an institution or even an organization of just like-minded believers but a group of people in right-relatedness who embraced a Kingdom mindset to see the Gospel preached in love and demonstrated with power. Lake was a man on fire and that fire burned with a passion for God and a passion for souls.
Recently at a conference I heard a well known Christian leader say “anyone who calls himself an apostle and is not winning souls, his anointing isn’t worth spit” I turned to my wife, smiled and said, “spoken like a true evangelist”
While that point may be blunt, my point is we are called to love God and take that love to a hurting world. This was a passion of Lake that took him to the nations and the same passion that established the healing rooms in the Spokane WA. Lake understood that Jesus was manifested to destroy the works of the devil and he embraced that commission as well. The vision of IFM has not changed. We like Jesus are not here to be served but to serve and see Jesus receive the full reward of His sacrifice – people of all nations saved, delivered, and healed, discipled and brought into a place of Intimacy with the Father.
He has given us a wonderful heritage to receive and build upon to bring Glory to His Name. May the Lord confirm Isaiah 61:1-3 for all of you as we move forward with fresh vision and passion.
